Morafe 2023 Trip Reflections: IAWA Alumni Moses
My name is Moses, one of the alumni of IAWA. Through the last camp, I was invited to be a facilitator. I thought being a facilitator was just about helping around, but that was not the case. I went there after facing certain failures, thinking that being at the camp would take my mind off things. Upon arriving at the camp, I had the opportunity to meet successful people who shared their life journeys.
Many of them had experienced failure at some point but never gave up; to them, failure was a lesson learned. The wise words and knowledge they shared truly shifted my mindset, and I took everything to heart. I learned so much at the camp, and one of my highlights was being in Brits. I saw how I could be in the same world as others but live in different environments, where love was spread.
I felt at ease witnessing the gratitude expressed by a grandmother for our service; there was so much I learned. I acted as a big brother to the ambassadors who welcomed me with nothing but love and were very active. I am glad to have met all of them. During the trip, I had the opportunity to visit the late President Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela's house, the Hector Peterson Museum, and the Apartheid Museum. I learned more about my history and how our leaders fought for the freedom we have today.
Personally, the camp felt like a message from God, telling me how much He loves me and that I should appreciate the life He gave me, living it to the fullest. He sent this message through good people like Meisha and all the individuals supporting the organization, allowing people like us to see the light. I will always be thankful to the IAWA organization; it not only taught me but also filled me with love. I Am We Are!
